'NATURE AND NEW GEOMETRIES' at Downtown Design 2024
Fantini Mosaici, will present a dynamic collection of mosaic panels for the first time during the 11th edition of DowntownDesign (running 6-9 November 2024), the Middle East's premier design fair.
Created by our internal design studio, the Downtown Design collection features a collection of mosaic panels, showcasing bespoke handcrafted Palladiana-style mosaics in an intriguing blend of geometric and floral patterns inspired by ‘the elegance of simplicity’.
According to the designers, nature, new geometries and the light of precious materials are at the heart of these designs. Rich marbles in shades of green, white and blue are discreetly illuminated by the precious light from the glass mosaic and Mother of Pearl, highlighting the intrinsic beauty of the compositions.”
The collection is a delicate artistic mélange crafted from a variety of marbles – including Carrara Bianco, Crema, Verde Alpi and Azul Bahia – with accents of mother-of-pearl and mirrored mosaic elements. Each panel uses the same materials but offers a distinct geometric pattern and finish, presenting mosaic as a luxurious, modern and versatile material that can enrich and transform both interior and exterior spaces, providing a bespoke artisanal touch.
Italian Palladiana originates from the Veneto region of Italy and is named after the renowned 16th-century architect Andrea Palladio. This traditional flooring technique involves embedding irregularly shaped fragments of marble or stone into a cementitious base. The method creates a visually striking mosaic-like surface with a rich, textured appearance that highlights the natural beauty of the stones.
“The concept behind this collection, created by our team of in-house architects and designers in Milan, was to demonstrate the versatility and different techniques that can be used to create a unique mosaic surface. Palladiana is a technique that we at Fantini Mosaici have used for decades in boutiques, residences and hotels, and is currently very much in demand. We believe that to keep handmade mosaic relevant in today's world, we need to continuously mix and match different techniques and ideas, stimulating clients and designers to use mosaic in their projects,” says Enrico Fantin, President and CEO of Fantini Mosaici.
