FUTURE VISIONS

Established in 1900, family-owned Fantini Mosaici has well-established roots in the past. Yet it is a forward-thinking, progressive company whose designers and master artisans are stimulated by contemporary and futuristic ideas and applications. So, for Milan Design Week – the world's biggest and most influential design event – Fantini Mosaici has teamed up with art students and young designers to present a vision of how luxury mosaics and terrazzo can be used in today’s and tomorrow’s landscapes.

Mosaic Art Exhibition

‘A TALE OF BEAUTY, DÉCOR, MATERIALS AND SURFACES’

Fantini Mosaici in collaboration with Brera Accademia di Belle Arti

Discover the winning designs from ’A tale of beauty, décor, material and surfaces’ – a study/competition on the expressive forms of mosaic, organised in collaboration with the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan. For the first time in its 120-year history, Fantini Mosaici has instigated a creative competition aimed at university students.

During Milan Design Week, the three winning designs will be revealed as part of the exhibition of 21 mosaic and terrazzo compositions designed by Accademia students and curated by Massimo Bruto Randone.

The winning and notable entries were translated into handcrafted artistic mosaic panels by Fantini Mosaici’s master craftspeople. They captured the essence and vision of how these precious materials can be used in modern art.

‘ESTETICHE SOMMERSE UNVEILING HIDDEN BEAUTY’

In Collaboration with Park Associati | Designed by CARA \ DAVIDE

Can you imagine a terrazzo surface where computer chips and circuit boards replace traditional marble and glass chips? This novel approach to terrazzo led to the ‘Estetiche Sommerse - Unveiling hidden beauty’ exhibition, which features the ‘electronic terrazzo’ terrace designed by Cara Judd and Davide Gramatica of CARA \ DAVIDE, a multi-disciplinary Milan-based design studio.

Curious and intrigued by innovative materials, techniques and processes, the couple salvaged modern electro-trash and asked Fantini Mosaici to create a ground-breaking terrazzo floor. The high-tech terrazzo floor is the main protagonist of this exhibition, which was curated by leading architectural firm Park Associati.

The installation demonstrates how this centuries-old decorative technique, mastered by Fantini Mosaici, can be brought into the 21st century simply by replacing the chips of yesteryear with those of today’s digital technology.
